Dog Was Let Out for a Bathroom Break—Then Accidentally Ran a Half Marathon and Finished 7th
Sometimes, a simple trip outside can turn into an unforgettable adventure.
That is exactly what happened to Ludivine, a Bloodhound from Elkmont, Alabama, in January 2016.
Her owner, April Hamlin, had simply let her dog outside for a bathroom break. But instead of returning home, Ludivine wandered toward a nearby running event—and unexpectedly became one of the race's most memorable participants.
Ludivine Saw the Runners and Joined Them
The event was the inaugural Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon in Elkmont, Alabama.
When the race began, Ludivine apparently joined the runners and took off along the course.
Her owner had no idea that her dog was participating.

When Ludivine crossed the finish line, nobody expected her to have performed so well.
She completed the course in approximately 1 hour, 32 minutes and 56 seconds and was recorded as finishing seventh overall, among 165 runners.
Because Ludivine wasn't an official registered participant, the placement was technically unofficial—but the race organizers still recognized her achievement and presented her with a medal. (KSL)

Her Owner Was Shocked
April Hamlin was reportedly surprised that Ludivine had managed to run the entire race.
